Room to Grow Clinical Services, Improved Communication Two Goals of New East Austin Offices

Seton is moving a large portion of its network administration staff from buildings sprinkled throughout Austin’s central corridor into new offices across the street from Dell Children’s Medical Center. With exterior construction nearing completion and interior systems being installed, it’s expected the move will be complete in January 2009.

The consolidation, announced in spring, 2007, offers the network several benefits.

  • It will free up much-needed space in Seton Medical Center Austin for expanded clinical services.
  • Proceeds from the sale of two buildings Seton owns and occupies will be invested in academic medicine, clinical training, and other operations.
  • Over the long-term, it’s expected that housing frequent collaborators under the same roof will improve communication, produce efficiencies and result in better support for direct-care staff.
  • Community leaders have praised the move as a major thrust in East Austin’s redevelopment.

“Seton is a preeminent example of a strong partner who puts actions behind its words,” said Jeffrey Richard, president and chief executive officer of the Austin Area Urban League. “This intentional decision to be an anchor in this part of the community is the latest example of Seton’s heart and passion by doing.”

The 150,000 square-foot building was designed and is being built by its owners, Catellus Development Group. Catellus is the master developer of Mueller Austin, a mixed-use urban village springing from the site of the former Robert Mueller Municipal Airport.
