Jesus Garza

Jesus Garza came to SETON in December 2002 to lead a newly-defined health ministry, which includes Brackenridge Hospital, Seton Southwest, Seton Highland Lakes and Seton Edgar B. Davis. Prior to his role at SETON, Garza served as deputy general manager in charge of LCRA's water and environmental resources. He has extensive experience in city management, serving the City of Austin in numerous roles including administrative assistant to the city manager, manager of Solid Waste Services, assistant director for the Public Works Department, acting director of Parks and Recreation Department, director of the General Services Department, assistant city manager and city manager. He also served as assistant and deputy city manager in Corpus Christi from 1988 to 1992 before becoming executive director in March 1992 of the Texas Water Commission, which was later merged into TCEQ.

Garza received his undergraduate degree in education with teaching fields in political science and economics from the University of Texas and his master's of public affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs. He was named "Public Administrator of the Year" by the American Society for Public Administration/CenTex Chapter in 2001 and "Public Official of the Year" by Governing magazine in 2000.



Administrator, Brackenridge Hospital

Bruce Broslat

Bruce Broslat became vice president of Operations/Administrator of Brackenridge Hospital in spring 2004. Prior to this role, he served as administrator of Children's Hospital of Austin.

Bruce came to SETON in early 2000 as vice president of Finance. In addition to serving as interim administrator for Brackenridge Hospital twice, Bruce acted as interim Operations manager for SETON's Community Health Centers for a four-month period while simultaneously directing the Network's Mission Control Office and other financial management functions. As vice president of Finance, he coordinated Value Propositions for the Network and oversaw finances for Children's Hospital, Brackenridge, 'Specially For Children, Austin Medical Education Programs and the Community Health Centers.

Bruce has 20-plus years of experience managing operational and other business activities in various industry settings.



Medical Director

Thomas W. Caven M.D.

Dr. Caven graduated with a Plan II degree from the University of Texas at Austin and received his MD from the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. Before coming to SETON, Dr. Caven served as the chairman of the Medicine and Family Practice department at Round Rock Community Hospital and was the chief of the department of Family Practice at Austin Diagnostic Clinic. He also had a private practice and was an adjunct clinical professor in family medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston .

From 1992 - 1993, Dr. Caven served as the chief of the Family Practice department at Seton Northwest, before founding the Travis Physicians Associates and serving as the group's vice president. He later became the medical director for the Seton Health Plan.

Dr. Caven now serves as the medical director and vice president of Medical Affairs for Brackenridge.



Chief of Staff

Daniel L. Peterson, M.D.

A Denver, Colo., native, Dr. Daniel L. Peterson serves as Brackenridge Hospital's chief of staff. With interests in Biochemistry and Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, Dr. Peterson received two Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Colorado (UC) at Boulder in 1984. Soon after, he earned his MD from UC Health Science Center School of Medicine, and performed both his internship and residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Peterson has been published in the Journal of Neurosurgery, American Journal of Neuroradiology and Neurosurgery.
