Beginning Aug. 6, the Seton Family of Hospitals Imaging department will have a new, more efficient way to provide exam results to staff and physicians.
Imaging is currently working with ARA to convert our existing transcription system to front-end voice recognition at sites across the network by Aug. 25.
The new Powerscribe 360 system will use software to translate the dictating physician’s voice to text, which will appear on-screen in real-time. Radiologists will then have the ability to review newly dictated reports, make any necessary changes and finalize dictation. The results will be available immediately in COMPASS and PACS.
Additionally, ED X-rays will be read immediately. The finalized reports will go to treating physicians, who can discuss the results with their patients before the patients leave the ED. Seton’s radiologists have committed to contemporaneous interpretation of all ED plain film images by end of the calendar year, again greatly reducing turnaround time.
Physicians will see few changes with this new system. Results will still be available in COMPASS and PACS. The biggest change is the listen line will be discontinued; however, you will still be able to access reports, which have not been transcribed and are unavailable in COMPASS and PACS, by calling the ARA box at 512-454-5641. An ARA staff member will provide you with the results from any dictated report.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Paul Dubiel, senior director of Imaging, at 512-324-1192.
