Dr. Mathis Blackstock: 1925-2012

Longtime Austin family practice doctor and clinic namesake, Mathis Blackstock, died Tuesday, July 3. The 87-year-old is survived by his wife of 63 years and three children.

“Dr. Blackstock helped to build the foundation of our family medicine program over the 50-plus years he taught and practiced medicine in Austin,” said Dana Sprute, MD, MPH, who worked closely with Dr. Blackstock. “He leaves a tremendous legacy in the many wonderful physicians whom he mentored in their evolution as physicians and leaders in their communities.”

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, July 7, at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin, 4700 Grover Ave.
