Dell Seton contains 135 acute care beds, 60 critical care beds and 13 operating rooms (OR) – all designed with the patient in the center of care. We used LEAN principles and systems thinking to guide layouts, equipment and even the naming conventions in the new space.
“Intentional “sameness” ensures that medical teams never have to guess where needed supplies and equipment are located. A hybrid OR/catheterization lab allows a cardiovascular expert to treat a patient’s heart guided by a tiny camera, while a surgeon repairs broken bones at the same time, reducing the time a patient spends in surgery, under anesthesia, and speeding recovery. Patient “smart rooms” have systems that automate vital signs monitoring and reporting, allowing doctors and nurses to spend less time on paperwork and more time with patients.
