Beginning in May of 2017, Dell Seton Medical Center will partner with the University of Texas Dell Medical School with the opening of a teaching hospital in downtown Austin. Seton hopes that this partnership will enhance its long-standing patient care model that focuses on delivering value-based, person-centered healthcare. In addition, this partnership aims to create a culture of innovation at Dell Seton, as well as provide a formative experience to future doctors.
Dell Seton: Designed With the Patient in Mind
Every aspect of Dell Seton has been designed with excellent patient care in mind. The facility has 35 acute care beds, 60 critical care beds and 13 operating rooms. In each of these rooms, “intentional sameness” helps medical teams to quickly and easily locate all necessary supplies and equipment.
In addition, patient “smart rooms” include systems that automate vital signs monitoring and reporting, which allows doctors and nurses to spend less time on paperwork and more time with patients.
To further enhance the patient experience, a hybrid operating room and catheterization lab allows a cardiovascular expert to treat a patient’s heart guided by a tiny camera, while a surgeon repairs broken bones at the same time. This results in significantly reduced surgery time and a quicker recovery.
Interaction Between Dell Seton and Dell Medical School
Dell Seton will collaborate with Dell Medical school on graduate medical education, medical student education, residency and fellowship programs, translational research, data collection and projects that connect to the hard and social sciences programs at the University of Texas.
In addition to expanding the many continuing medical education programs available locally, Dell Medical School will work with Dell Seton and community providers, Central Health and the Community Care Collaborative to provide better systems of care for poor and vulnerable populations.
